Griffin Kelley, Opinion Writer

Griffin Kelley is currently in his Senior year at East High School and is in his third year of journalism, second as an advanced student. He was born on October 9, 2003 in Salt Lake City, Utah. His mother was born in New York and moved around the country her entire life, and his father was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. Griffin has family in St. Louis and Boston, Massachusetts. His favorite time of year is winter, when he's able to visit his family in St. Louis for the holiday season. He loves to cook and play soccer and his favorite team is Manchester City, a club in England. Griffin supports promoting diversity and acceptance in school and loves being part of a class with a variety of cultures and values. Griffin has been out of the country twice both times visiting southern and central America and loved the experience it gave him. He hopes that one day he can travel to Europe and learn more about the deep culture and history there.
He specifically wants to visit Manchester, England, and attend a Manchester City game to support his life-long favorite soccer team. Griffin hopes to attend Washington University in St. Louis for college and move forward into the medical field. He is beginning his fourth year in the Health Professions Academy (HPA) and loves the experience it's given him. He is most interested in pursing a position specifically involved with sports medicine. Griffin has taken this summer of quarantine to reflect on himself and strive to become a more educated individual, fighting for climate justice and societal equity.
Griffin has one older brother who has graduated high school and working on the next step in his education and in his life. He has two dogs, Yuki and Sachi. Both are Akitas, a Japanese breed that Griffin’s parents love. Griffin attended Clayton Middle School for both 7th and 8th grade. Before that he went to Uintah Elementary School. Griffin had a challenging past year and is focusing on learning from his mistakes and becoming a better student and person.
