Tevin Biles, brother of Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles was charged with homicide, voluntary manslaughter, felonious assault, and perjury for a triple homicide that occurred at a party in Cleveland on December 31, 2018.

On New Year’s eve of 2018, at around 11:30 p.m an uninvited group of people walked into a party. An altercation between those who were invited and the uninvited group ensued, which lead to Tevin Biles shooting multiple people, 3 of which died of their injuries. This lead to people fleeing the party in a panic.

The 3 victims who were killed, were Delvante Johnson, aged 19, Toshua Banks, aged 21, and Devaungh Gibson, aged 23. Johnson and Banks were pronounced dead at the scene, while Gibson died later at a hospital.

Tevin Biles was arrested on Thursday, August 29, 2019 after the local sheriff’s office obtained a warrant to take a DNA cheek swab from him. He was later charged with 6 counts of murder, 3 counts of voluntary manslaughter, 5 counts of felonious assault, and 1 count of perjury. He plead not guilty at his arraignment on Friday, September 13, 2019 at the Cuyahoga County Justice Center.

Simone Biles commented on the situation tweeting “Still having a hard time processing last week’s news” with a picture stating, “My heart aches for everyone involved, especially for the victims and their families. There is nothing that I can say that will heal anyone’s pain, but I do want to express my sincere condolences to everyone affected by this terrible tragedy. I ask everyone to please respect my family’s privacy as we deal with our pain. XO” her fans replied to her tweet, many of which shame the media’s coverage on this story. Many reports are using Simone’s name to sell the story, and her fans are clearly against it, backing her up by saying, “You don’t have to say ANYTHING at all Simone. No one should be bringing you into this because you have NOTHING to do with it. We’re by your side love and support you 100%”
