The Buzz of the Beehive: Thriller

Emma Flood, Arts and Entertainment Writer

“Thriller” is the best-selling album of all time sung by Michael Jackson. The song itself has a 14-minute video that was inspired by horror movies in the 1950’s, along with a dance that will never be forgotten. Odyssey Dance Theatre, a dance company has won the Best of State Award eleven years in a row, has begun their 2016-17 season with their hit show, “Thriller.” This year, it will feature your favorite pieces from the past, including Thriller, The Curse of the Mummy, Dem Bones, Frankenstein, Jason Jam, Salem’s Mass, The Lost Boys, the River of Blood Dance, and a few new dance numbers. Margaret Godfrey of the Salt Lake Tribune thought, “Odyssey’s production of ‘Thriller’ was truly a thrill for the audience, which was at times breathless with laughter, at times fearful and amazed, but always totally entertained. The pieces were excitingly choreographed and energetically performed…” Even Bella Wray of East High School said that, “Thriller was awesome. I loved it.”

The show will be performed September 23rd through October 29th. Next up on ODT’s agenda will be showings of the theatre’s own version of the Nutcracker, “ReduxNut-Cracker” in December. The show will be presented at 7 different theatres this year, including the Egyptian Theatre, Weber State University, Cache Valley Center for the Arts, Kingsbury Hall, Covey Center for the Arts, Sevier Valley Center, and Tuacahn Amphitheatre.
